Rock Shop in Holbrook, Arizona

The world-famous Rainbow Rock Shop, in Holbrook, Arizona!
                                           .

I would love to have one of these dinosaurs in my front yard. Mrs. UC would not.
                                          .

Ooh, pretty!
                                            .

Lots of petrified wood. All of these samples came from private land. It is illegal to take petrified wood from government land.

  1. I loved rock shops when I was little! I even had a little rock polisher at home. I also loved smashing rocks, not ala Bam Bam but to see what was inside. It seems I've always had a thing for cracking the tough nuts, and excavating interiors :)

When we moved to FLA, the limestone and softer rocks would yield wonderful traces of former lives.

    1. Hi Lisa,

I always wanted a rock polisher, but never got around to getting one. I'm alway finding really cool quartz rocks in my yard.

When I was a boy in Henderson, Nevada, all the neightborhood kids hung out with a old, retired mining engineer. Mr. Terrell's house looked like the Rainbow Rock Shop.
